In Taking Care of a Stranger, Sheila Garner details her personal journey of learning to live without a close relationship with her mother. This was an excellent life account! Can't wait for the next one!
A very quick read and I wish it was longer. A good book to help with unforgiveness and bitterness.
I enjoyed reading the book,however,I felt that it left me with a void.As I approached the end of the book I just wanted more,Now mind you,I know the author personally,so that may have something to do with it.Now,I would have paid more,if she would take the pictures out,and gave me more writing.Sheila Garner is an amazing woman,I can only Hope,the Pen and Paper continue to meet,and her thoughts continue to flourish,Your number one Fan,Bro Chase
While the story held my interest in the twins need for a mother's love I was not sure if the author felt ungrateful of the mother desire to have a better life for her kids than she was able to give I felt I need more information.
This is a wonderful book to inspire you and to make you appreciate the gift of motherly love. It’s easy to read and makes you feel exactly what she feels. I’ve read it multiple times for myself and for my grandchildren. I highly recommend it to everyone I know.
I'm in my twenties and I am beginning to learn who my parents are as adults and not just as parents. I now find myself asking things like "Ma, why did you write me letters to talk to me and Dad why did you beat us?" I felt loved growing up but there are some times when I, as a child, questioned that. Even if you feel like you know your mother, this book really gives you the confidence to ask your parents questions, it pushes you to appreciate your parents and most of all, it allows you to forgive yourself and your parents for whatever you feel they didn't do "right" in your development. This book is for healing!
A heart felt sharing of painful memories and of survival from abuse. Ms Garner worked with me 10 -15 years ago and I had no knowledge of the trials she had been through. As someone who has experienced abuse I applaud her courage.
