Picture this. You’re a scientist, right? And you’ve got yourself a pretty nice lab setup; you’ve got big gleaming sterile tables, crisp white lab coat, state-of-the-art microscope trained down on a petri dish full of bacteria. And you’ve got some stuff you want to test out, some chemical that should interact with the bacteria in interesting ways.
So you get your dropper, peer through your microscope, fix one bacterium in your sights and juice it. Then you sit back and take notes. Maybe the chemical does what you thought, and the bacterium thrives. Maybe it doesn’t, and it dies. Maybe it reacts in really bizarre ways that you never saw coming, but hey, so much the better right? All data are good data, and you’re learning all sort of interesting things. Science marches on!

Dan Everton's goal was to coast through life. His slacker security job paid the bills, and although nothing was ever going to get better, at least it wasn't going to get worse.
Or so he thought. Suddenly, Dan's become the recipient of intermittently occurring superpowers, and things have gotten much worse. With each new power comes a new antagonist intent on destroying Dan, with no concern for any collateral damage that might occur.
Some people are born to greatness. Some have greatness thrust upon them. And some are dragged into it, kicking and screaming the whole way.

Fun trip through the perspective of a "victim" of superpower enhancement. Not long, but well-written with fully realized protagonist. I meant to read about half, but I was looking so forward to each chapter, I read it in one sitting. I expect more of the same from Mr. Edwards, whose writing style is breezy, clever, and a bit dark. surprisingly fun read! It isn't my usual style, but the characters are quirky and likeable.
Like a side of fries from a diner that knows how to make fries. "The Reluctant Superhero" is uncomplicated, unpretentious fun, a quick read, and exactly what you wanted when you ordered it. Micah's first-person prose is casually effortless and seasoned with intelligent specific details. While some characters may be slightly lacking in relational depth and history, the misfortunes and consequences suffered by our hapless hero due to his sudden onset of superpowers are inventive and relatable, grounding the superhero in human relatability. This book is very easily enjoyed, and I look forward to the next installment. Who doesn't love a good plate of fries?
"Superhero noir" - what a neat idea! I think the author executed it very well. This was a fun, quick read and I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.

I liked the story very much. the first book seems like a collection of short stories put together, but done well. I am looking forward to the rest of the series. I hope to see more soon. For a fledgling writer I like his style.
This was a very quick read, largely because the story sucks you in right from the start. Dan's adventures as the reluctant superhero are amusing and entertaining. Dan grows on you with his quirky personality. It's budget-priced entertainment that's more than worth it for a few hours of chuckles. There were moments when my family looked at me as if I were nuts for laughing out loud at the book! I'm glad to know that Dan's adventures don't end here, and I can't wait to see what's in store.
A very light, fast read written in a humorous, almost conversational, tone. It reads almost as though the protagonist is sitting with you, having a drink (or several) and telling the story of what happened. I'll definitely be picking up the next book in the series.
